Too good to last!!??

M: Thursday the 23rd of March 2006 (yesterday) was the end of a week of sunshine in Brussels. Why is this so significant that I must post it on our blog? Because a full week of sun in Belgium is something to celebrate, as it is not a regular occurance. I celebrated the day after an intensive greek tutorial class by joining up with Catherine, Erica and Cally (who was visiting from Colorado) at "l'Ultime Atome" in St. Boniface. Stuffed bellies and a litre of wine later, Erica went back to her internship at the U.S. Embassy and the three remaining girls toured Brussels. The itinerary included the Palais de justice (pictured here), Le Sablon (with a visit to Marcolini chocolates and their competition, Wittamer), Place Royale, the Beer Temple near the Grand Place (for some 12% Westvleteren), and the Bourse. The tour ended at sunset by winding down with a drink in St. Gery followed by delicious frites with samurai sauce (spicy mayonnaise)!

Five Months and Growing...

M: Five months and counting, John has still not taken to the shears. His brown locks are becoming more luscious with every passing day. However, I think our beloved JK is feeling the weight on his shoulders and a trim is lurking on the horizon.

Were you expecting the posting to be about something else??

Wackiness in Antwerp

J: On Saturday (11 March) we took a day trip to Antwerp. A standard little voyage you might think? Well, nothing is standard in Belgium, the land of surrealism.

In the historic centre of town, we stumbled upon what every good city should have: two monster statues of Greek (OK, one was probably Roman) gods hovering above a herd of grazing cows. Upon closer inspection we realised it was a "largest cow" competition, sponsored by Belgium's largest grocery chain, the meat-loving Delhaize.

The winning cow was a creature of astounding proportions. More bison than cow, standing at least 1.78m (5'9"ish for you old school folk). I could only fantasise about the top quality steaks this guy would soon produce...

Need YOUR feedback....

M: To cut or not to cut? That is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to keep it long,
The wings and waves of outrageous hair,
Or to take scissors against a mass of brown locks,
And by opposing cut them...

...We need your help! Please send us your comments on John's hair follicle dilemma.Posted by Picasa
